Geprge, you were a good man and good friend. Helped me keep my'47 Ford coupe ready to roll.

I met George the first day of school and he quickly became one of my best friends in high school; we shared a lot of classes together, and a lot of adventures. You know I don’t know how “cool breeze” got attached to him, I don’t remember anyone calling him that, in fact when it appeared in the yearbook it surprised me. But you know what, it fit him, he was cool in the way he was, not necessary the way he acted. I spent lots of days over his house, his mom always ready to set another plate for me at the dinner table, and my mom would do the same with George. What I remember most of him was his laugh, there were times that we laughed to the point of losing our breath and grabbing our sides. I can still see him laughing that way. He loved the thought of adventure. the truth is I have so many fun stories about him and the times together. I will tell one of my favorites. One beautiful spring day, right after second period, we decided to cut school. so we boldly walked to his car, which was parked on campus, we got in George revved the engine for good measure and off we went, feeling bold and laughing all the way down the hill. We bought the fixings for a sandwiches went up to Tilden sat on a hill eating, taking in the beauty of the day and sharing our dreams. We actually returned to school at the start of eight period, and almost pulled it off, no one noticed we were gone except for Sister Grace Immaculata, Our bookeeping teacher who took roll every day and ran the class like we it was the 5th grade. Yeah we got a detention for that adventure, hell it was more than worth it.
George was a great friend, steady and loyal. I think of him often, and how young he was when he died, how unfair life can be. I wish I could share all the stories with him and hear that laugh again.

George and I walked home from school many days.  In those days the 82 AC Transit finished its run in front of the Plunge in Hayward and we had over two miles to walk along Mission Blvd. to get to our homes.  I don't remember any snow but I do remember the rain and walking.  Our paths crossed again many years later in Death Valley where he was vacationing with his family.  We exchanged memories of our long walks together.  I was sad when I learned of his illness and subsequent death.
