Dear, sweet, JoAnn,

I miss you. I remember with joy the way we laughed our way to school in our carpool and how lovely you were at the Holy Names tea. I wish I'd known about the troubles that haunted you and could have made them go away. Rest in peace.

Love, Yvette

There are hundreds of words that could be used to describe Joanne . . . kind, funny, thoughtful, generous, pretty, dedicated and on and on.  I have wonderful memories of Joanne from O'Dowd and the years that followed.  She was a faithful friend who never missed a holiday, birthday or opportunity to visit whenever I was in the area.  We had lots of laughs together, shared great stories and prayed over the difficulties life presented.  Like Yvette, I wish I could have taken her sadness and despair away. But, I couldn't.  I rest in the belief that she is the happiest she has ever been and finally, at peace.  She was a dear friend and I don't think of her without tears.

Joanne and I shared classmate years at O'Dowd and Holy Names College.  We both were employed by Oakland Public Schools.  I have fond memories of camping with her and being entertained in her lovely home with delicious meals.  She hosted an engagement party for us in her home.  I am a richer person having known her friendship.

Joanne was one of my favorite people. After high school we both attended Holy Names College and became teachers. Every time we ran into each other we exchanged school stories and shared many laughs. I was reading the "In Memoriam" section of the Holy Names newsletter that I saw her name. I couldn't believe it so I called her husband and he confirmed it. Her depression was more than anyone knew or she could bear. I pray that she has found peace in heaven.
