Louis Murphy

Louis Joseph Murphy passed away in Arroyo Grande, CA, on August 18, 2020, according to information provided by Bishop O’Dowd. Louis was born Louis Joseph Scillo on August 26, 1942, in Japanese-occupied Manila, to Hilda and Nick Scillo.

In 1945, the Scillo family emigrated to the United States and settled in Vallejo, CA. After dad Nick (1949) and mom Hilda (1950) both passed away, Louis was welcomed into the Gary & Susie Murphy family. Louis was officially adopted by the Murphys in 1952. He attended Saint Louis Bertrand Elementary and Bishop O’Dowd High, leaving after his junior year. From 1959 to 1962, Louis served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. From 1967 to 2002, he worked for Pacific Telephone and, later, AT&T as an Engineering COLD Planner.

Louis is survived by his wife Georgia Baker-Murphy, stepdaughters Denise Philby (Rich) of Bainbridge Island., WA, and Sandra McGrael (Scott), St. Charles, MO, and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Mike Scillo (Christine), San Diego, CA, and sisters Mary Murphy, Oakland, CA, and Susie Miller, Shippensburg, PA, and brother-in-law Jim Baker, Taft, CA.

Louis will be cremated. In the spring (hopefully, after Covid). Louis will be buried with full military honors in the Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin, CA.
