Carole Miguel VIEW PROFILE

Carole Miguel

Carole Miguel ’60 passed away on April 19, 2021. Born in Oakland, June 20, 1942, she had declined in the past year and had been in hospice care during recent months.  An only child, Carole did not have a family.

Five years ago, Carole contracted sepsis, and while she survived, she never truly healed, according to a close friend. Post-sepsis heart failure, kidney failure, and a multitude of other painful ailments followed. Prior to the onset of sepsis, friends described her as looking much younger than her actual years.

Carole lived in Hawaii for about 15 years and after that in the Seattle area, where she gained a following for her musical talents and entertainment capability. Described on her website as a jazz and Brazilian singer, designer, and pluviophile (“lover of rain”), she operated Carole Miguel & Brazz, which did graphic production for local clients, including Swedish Hospital.

Professionally, she performed as a vocalist, often backed up by three or more musical accompanists. Always the life of the party, she enjoyed a great martini, appetizers, anything chocolate, and an extensive circle of friends. Carole loved everything Apple.

Carole’s long-time friend and affectionally her ‘goddaughter', Katie Kahumoku, Pat Frietas ‘60, Luci Cunha Flynn ‘60, Darlene Gervasoni Hessler ‘60, and Jackie Menghini Pickard ’60 contributed to this obituary.

In her memory, we expect to add to Carole’s website Profile a photo from 2017 with Carole and ’60 friends.

Thank you for posting this announcment of Carole's passing.  It was a joy to have some connection with Carole following high school, and to support her in her musical career.  We are second cousins, so she and I shared a friendship as well as a family connection.  Our mothers were cousins, and this meant that we got to see one another at extended family gatherings.  I remember connecting with Carole in Hawai'i where she lived and worked.

Hello there. I'm not an alumni, but I wanted to post a memory of Carole Miguel, who I learned passed away last year. I had contacted Carole about the song she composed, "My Hawaiian Christmas". I heard the song playing on an audio loop at Disney World's Polynesian Resort several years ago. After an internet search, I found that Carole was the composer, and I emailed her to let her know that her song was included in Disney's audio loop for Christmas. I received a reply from Carole, thanking me for letting her know, and she was greatly appreciative that her song was playing at Disney World. The song is a beautiful melody and was recorded by the Honolulu Boys Choir...it can be found on Youtube with a simple search. Anyway, I just wanted to share that memory. I never met Carole other than that one email exchange, but the fact that she responded to my email about her song indicates she must've been a lovely woman. Thank you.
