Elizabeth Masar (Wilson)

Elizabeth "Betty" Masar '60 Wilson passed away on September 29, 2020. Betty had suffered from lung cancer. Close friends from our Class, including Jackie Menghini '60 Pickard, had been in ongoing contact with her. Betty received hospice care prior to passing and was comforted by her entire family with love and attention throughout.

Betty and Dave were married for over 50 years. Their children are Jim and Debbie. Jim and his wife, Eileen. have four boys and Debbie has two boys, so Betty had six grandsons.

Betty was involved in a lot of things over the years. She was on the Class of '60 Reunion Committee since the beginning! Betty supported and did fundraising for Children's Hospital, Oakland, by being on the committee with the Thrift Store on Piedmont Avenue until she got sick. Betty was in a Bunco Group and was the initiator along with her dear friend, Bev Pereira DeMaria (deceased), of the BOD Lunch Bunch.  Betty had a heart of gold.

She made countless dinners for people who were sick. She doted on her grandson's and loved to tell stories about them. Betty was also a great Walker, walking downtown from her home in Alameda walking to appointments. She just loved to walk.

Betty was an early member of our '60 Class Reunion Committee and was an enthusiastic volunteer for '60 activities throughout the past 40 years. She liked getting people together. Her laugh and upbeat, engaging personality will be deeply missed. No plans for a gathering to honor Betty have been announced as we all await relief from the novel coronavirus pandemic.
