Byron, CA

According to the East Bay Times (Bay Area News Group), George Leslie Mariman, 74, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at approximately 9:35am, in a head-on collision on Byron highway, just miles from his home.

He died at the scene Tuesday after the blue Honda Civic he was driving veered over the double yellow lines and collided with a gold Mazda minivan, the California Highway patrol said.

The driver of the minivan went by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with moderate injuries. He is expected to survive.

An autopsy on Mariman will determine whether a medical event led to the crash, authorities said. The CHP has not determined whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.

George loved his family, fishing, cold beer, and playing his guitar. A former Golden Gloves boxer, he also loved and followed all sports.
He is survived by his sister Laurie, his brother Mark, and his two children, Meghan and Martin.

George attended Oakland City College, following graduation from Bishop O'Dowd in 1960, and San José State University, where he receved his bachelor's degree. He had a lengthly career in teaching and education administration, primarily in the East Bay.
