I did not really know Joe well, but I do remember I liked him; he was one of those people you couldn't help but like. I remember that he was always friendly. I remember specifically his smile, always had a friendly smile. He had a good sense of humor, and most importantly, he was someone who you knew would be there when or if he was needed, and you would be able to count on him. He was a really nice person, and left us way too soon.

Many of us had met Joe's folks. We had stayed in touch joe long after high school and then with his mom via Christmas cards long after Joe died. Joe's daughter Sandra (named after Dennis Murphy's wife, we beleive) had saved Christmas cards that had been sent to her grandmother and she sent a very thoughtful letter when her grandmother died some years back. To our surprise, Sandra lives in the Seattle area, just as we do, so we talked to her on the phone and thanked her for remembering us.

I think we all remember Joe pretty well. He was a good guy who almost always had a grin on his face. He left us way too soon.

Joe and I discovered that we were born in the same hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.  How did this trivia became known you might ask?  We were standing in line practicing for graduation and the conversation unfolded.  We had something in common!  I always admired Joe's leadership skills; he added a great deal to our class history.

Joe always had a smile for everyone. He was a genuine person who had natural leadership skills. His passing came all too soon. We will have a great reunion in heaven someday.
